At the beginning of August 2018, I set off on a journey to Japan. I took that opportunity to realise a long time dream: riding the Transsiberian.
The journey from Russia to China took close to 2 months as I enjoyed travelling slowly, taking the time to discover the countries I passed by on the way. This series is covering the first part of the trip and is taking you from the famous St Petersburg to Slydyanka, a small town on the shores of Baikal lake.
As I crossed Russia, I was able to discover different facets of this country and experience the Russian hospitality. My Couchsurfing hosts Maria, Misha and Anton, as well as the random encounters I had on the train with Valentin and his military camarades, Vassili, the retired boxer who was so proud of his grandchildren, etc., made the journey very special for me and their stories gleaned thanks to GoogleTranslate will forever stay in my heart.
I hope this series will give you a taste of Russia.
